Activity Review: Jockey Club Inquiry-based Science Learning and Teaching Improvement Project – Smithsonian Science Stories

To enhance students' scientific literacy and inquiry skills, our school participated in the "Jockey Club Inquiry-based Science Learning and Teaching Improvement Project." Featuring the world-renowned "Smithsonian Science Education Center" curriculum, this program allowed our P.4 and P.5 students to become young scientists and embark on a fascinating journey of discovery.

P.4 students explored the theme: "How can we identify materials based on their properties?" Through observation, touch, and experimentation, they investigated the physical properties of various substances. By testing solubility and hardness, students learned to classify and identify materials systematically. This "learning by doing" approach not only sharpened their observation skills but also taught them that scientific conclusions must be based on solid evidence.

Meanwhile, P.5 students looked to the stars to answer: "How do we use the night sky to navigate?" The lesson guided students to understand the patterns of celestial movements and the positioning of constellations. Through simulations, students practiced using the North Star to determine directions, gaining insight into how ancient navigators crossed oceans using
